The Chirnside Urban Park, recently opened by Minister Sonya Kilkenny, marks a significant milestone in community development, offering an inclusive playspace for everyone. Situated by the Chirnside Park Shopping Centre, this vibrant hub features two climbable balloons, a flying fox, music play areas, swings, shelters, and much more. This park is a result of detailed community consultations since late 2019, ensuring it meets the local needs for accessibility, safety, and green spaces.
Councillor Richard Higgins of Yarra Ranges Council highlighted the park’s potential to become the town centre, providing a flexible space for social and recreational activities, as well as community events. The park includes a regional playground, walking paths, trampolines, an urban forest, and a custom-designed play area, making it a model for integrated community infrastructure.
Melbourne Quantity Surveyors played a pivotal role in the successful delivery of this project. Our responsibilities included crucial cost estimation and planning services, quantification, value management, and account management. We meticulously evaluated tenders and contracts, analysing contractor pricing to determine the preferred tender. Throughout the project, we facilitated smooth communication, managed monthly progress claims, and handled variations. These efforts ensured the project stayed within budget and met the high standards set by the community and stakeholders.
Thanks to matched contributions from Yarra Ranges Council and the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, this project has transformed Chirnside’s Urban Park into a space that embodies the community's vision and fosters health and wellbeing for all.
